In order to hash tag something, a record must exist for you to reference. KnowledgeNet makes creating a new contact simple by requiring just three pieces of information: a person's name, email address, and the company with which they are associated.

When you create a new contact record, you make it possible to do two things:

  1. Tag that contact. Tags are how KnowledgeNet tracks references to individual accounts and contacts, so that it’s easy to it’s easy to find information in the future, organize related information, and communicate with everyone on the network following that topic.

  2. Create a Salesforce record. If your organization uses KnowledgeNet Professional and has connected in their Salesforce instance, your record will automatically be saved in Salesforce.

To create a new contact:

  1. The first time you attempt to hash tag a new contact, KnowledgeNet will show you a list of possible matches as well as options to create new items. Select "Create New Contacts."

PRO TIP: If there are multiple ways a person's name might be spelled, try tagging a few versions before creating a new contact. This helps avoid duplicate record creation. This is especially true with frequently shortened names. For example,

  1. "Jon Smith" may already exist as "Jonathan Smith.

  2. "Michael Kim" may already exist as "Mike Kim."

2. In the new window, enter the contact's email address (note: this is required to create a new contact). KnowledgeNet uses AI to determine the individual's first and last name and company name from the email address, if possible.

3. If not, you will enter the First Name, Last Name, and Company. You may also choose a Contact Type. Then click the blue "Create" button.

4. KnowledgeNet does the rest. Your tagged item appears highlighted.

5. After you write and post your message (by clicking the blue "Post" button), you are congratulated for creating a new hash tag. Click the blue "Next" button.

6. Any time you create a new contact, KnowledgeNet will ask if you would like to "Follow" that contact (receive notifications whenever that contact is hash tagged). To follow that contact, click the blue "Follow" button. If you do not wish to follow that contact, do nothing. Click the blue "Close" button to finish.

7. If you follow the contact and want to modify your notification settings, click the bell icon.

8. You can receive a notification for every post or a once-daily digest of that day's activity.
