In KnowledgeNet, there are two symbols you might use to highlight individuals, the at symbol (@) and the hashtag (#). Each symbol has a different purpose, so it's important to understand how to use each one correctly.

The @ symbol is used to notify a user about your post or comment. When you use @ followed by the person’s name (for example, @Mehdi Tehranchi), KnowledgeNet sends a copy of your post to the person(s) via email and puts a copy of it on their personal KnowledgeNet timelines. They can easily engage with your post without having to search it out.

Using the @ symbol is especially useful in cases where the user is not following the original post.

The # symbol is used to tag contacts or accounts (for example, #Acme Corporation). Tags are how KnowledgeNet tracks references to people and businesses, so that it’s easy to organize your posts, find related information, and communicate with everyone on the network following that topic.
